The saying "Put all your eggs in one basket and see that no one kicks it over" may as well apply in today's Internet age as it was hundreds of years ago. In the Internet Traffic Ranking game, this is most significant. What we are referring to is if you are a DotCom player, don't use too many domain names to represent your diverse Internet businesses. For example, some companies use ABCnews.com, ABCmoney.com, ABCtravel.com and ABCetcetera.com to represent their different business ventures. Because traffic ranking is counted on a per domain basis, this approach is disadvantageous to ABC company's traffic ranking. They may have domains ranked higher and some domains ranked far down low. So it would be better to have one flagship domain name and attached other businesses to it as subdomains, viz: ABC.com as the parent company and you have news.ABC.com, money.ABC.com, travel.ABC.com, etc. This way all traffic of your different businesses will be counted as one and you will be in a good position to make a run on the Internet's top traffic ranking.

If fact, the big Internet players are sure realizing this and have consolidated all their ventures to one central domain. For example, CNN.com gave up SPORTSILLUSTRATED.com and made it to sportsillustrated.CNN.com and also have netscape.CNN.com, europe.CNN.com, etc.. Lycos bought Wired and although HOTWIRED.com was quite popular, gave it up and made it to hotwired.LYCOS.com. Lycos also bought a bunch of other businesses and just attached them to their flagship domain: HOTBOT.lycos.com, TRIPOD.lycos.com, FOXSPORTS.lycos.com, ANGELFIRE.lycos.com to name a few. As a result CNN.com is now ranked 27 and Lycos 29 in Alexa's Internet traffic world rankings.

In the Philippine setting, I think ABS-CBN is in a very strong position to claim the number one Philippine spot if it consolidate all its businesses into one domain. It may also greatly improve its traffic position in the world rankings. For example, they have the following domains in the Philippine Top 40: abs-cbn.com, abs-cbnnews.com, pinoycentral.com and pinoyauctions.com. Inq7.net combined with its Inq7money.net will be a strong second.
